A bolt tensioner is a specialized tool that offers significant advantages over traditional torque tightening methods, providing a precise and controlled amount of tension to bolts. It’s an essential tool during the assembly or maintenance of mechanical structures, equipment, or machinery. Widely utilized across various industries such as power generation, construction, mining, aerospace, and heavy machinery, bolt tensioners ensure accuracy, speed, safety, and consistency in applications.
A bolt tensioner operates by using hydraulic pressure to stretch the bolt before the nut is tightened. This method ensures that the bolt is properly preloaded, providing a secure and accurate assembly. The tensioner consists of a hydraulic body, which exerts a strong tension load on the bolt through a brace screwed onto the bolt. During operation, a socket is placed on the nut, and the tensioning sleeve is screwed onto the protruding end of the bolt. The hydraulic pump is then connected, and the oil pressure corresponding to the required tension is applied. The pressure should be slightly greater than the final degree of prestressing to account for any deformation in the joint when the pressure is released.
